Going Green!

As our dependency on electricity continues to grow exponentially, the green initiative has created awareness that there are many changes we can make in our lifestyles that will help decrease the use of unnecessary electrical usage. This in turn has an upstream effect where we can do our part in helping decrease greenhouse gases which are theorized to have the effect of heating up the earth to the point where the polar ice caps are now melting.

In helping in that awareness, Chicago Electric has taken the responsibility of educating their customers and following standards that support the green initiative.

What can you do to help in greening up the earth?

  1. CFL's - Change your light bulbs to the newer, less power consuming CFL (compact fluorescent) bulbs. CFL's typically have a rated life 8-15 times greater than the that of standard incandescent bulbs.
  2. Windmills - Feel the wind. Windmills have come a long way over the years and depending on the average yearly wind speed, a new windmill can start saving you money today.
  3. Solar Panels - Install solar panels. The sun is a tremendous power generating source of electricity.
  4. Turn off the lights - Turn off the lights or other electrically powered equipment when not in use.
  5. Cell phone recharging - Unplug your cell phone when it has been fully charged. As the charge of your phone completes, the current continues to flow to the phone although it is no longer needed.
  6. Surprise - Did you know that equipment like your TV, microwave, coffee maker, computer, and stereo continue to draw power even though they are turned off? Connecting these devices to a simple power strip or smart power strip and flipping the switch on these devices can save energy and money.
  7. Insulation - Insulate your home with high grade insulation material. This will help in keeping warm air from dissipating in the winter time and cool air from escaping in the summer time.
